Hunters

Basically Bush was formed as a family-owned business in 1998 to supply services to the pest-control industry. We purchase possum fur and skins from independant hunters and our primary focus is to support and ensure that the industry is profitable for them. We also lobby for the view that commercial harvesting of possums has legitimacy as a viable method for possum management.

The economic return from trapping and harvesting possum fur or skins depends on the skills of each hunter. The industry attracts participants with an entrepreneurial spirit, a love of outdoors, and a willingness to learn new skills.

Possum skins

Update 13 March 2025: Similar to last year, the demand for possum skins remains steady. The outlook going forward is positive and we are confident that this will continue.

However, last season we were over-supplied and still have a significant amount of skins in stock that we need to process. When we have cleared this inventory we will start purchasing again.

Possum fur

Update 11 March 2025: We will have quotas in place each month for the foreseeable future. We are currently only buying fur from existing clients so please have a chat with your usual agent about how they can fit you into their quota over the coming weeks and months.

We will do our very best to support our loyal customers but acknowledge that this won’t be possible for everyone.
